About

I am a historian and university lecturer in Canadian History who for years has been researching and writing the history of urban planning in and around Toronto, Canada, where I live. My book on Toronto planning has now been published by UBC Press – see the “Publications” page on this blog – but while it made its way through the long publication process I found myself wanting to reveal things I had uncovered in my research as well as to offer a historical perspective on current issues and problems in the city. So this blog was born. And so it continues. Historians often say one cannot understand the present without knowing the past, and with no subject is that more true than urban planning.
